An Enchanting Spot to see a Show

Saturday night, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend my first show at the breathtaking Theatre Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.  The show was Seu Jorge performing The Life Aquatic/ A tribute to David Bowie.  Jorge's Portuguese interpretations of Bowie's classics, many of which were performed in the Wes Anderson film, were hauntingly beautiful.  I appreciated the sea of red beanies worn by many an audience member/fan of the film.  I greatly enjoyed the fantastical setting of this venue which lent a mesmerizing quality to the show.  If you haven't already, I highly recommend checking it out.

SHOP IT SILVER LAKE

This is the shopping event of the season.  Such great deals here, friends.  And super cute stuff for kids and adults alike.  Proceeds help support our neighborhood school, so your money goes to a good cause to boot.  Last year I bought amazing bedside table lamps, a monogrammed wallet for my mom's birthday, adorable clothes for the kids, and lots of cookies at the Bake Sale!  In the past, I've gotten amazing jewelry at even more amazing prices.  The vibe is local, hip, kind of homespun, friendly and festive.  Get your holiday shopping done early this year.  Cute host/ess gifts for all those holiday parties you will be attending too.  Hope to see you there!

What, snow in LA?

What, snow in LA?

Ok, who's in?  After 5 years of drought, not only is the LA landscape starting to resemble Arizona, but the surrounding environs are being affected as well.  Last winter, we took the kids to the "snow" in Yosemite.  We all enjoyed a gorgeous hike to the top of a waterfall in the beautiful 70 degree weather, but the one ice chunk outside our rental didn't quite constitute "playing in the snow."  So, this winter we're keeping it even more local.  Snow Day LA is taking place just outside of Dodger Stadium, and my family will be there.  The snow is apparently bio-degradable and non-toxic.  I mean, we're Californians, like ya know?

Red Herring

Here's a snap of my friend, Nicole, and I having an intimate dinner on a rare rainy night in LA.  The location is Red Herring at the far east end of Colorado Boulevard in Eagle Rock.  The decor is superb, the service completely accommodating and the food delicious.  Nicole and I shared an entree with two starters...and, yes, splurged on dessert...warm apple pie a la mode.  It was worth it.  I highly suggest you check it out for yourself.  Let me know what you order!

Design Inspiration

I'm creating a little guest house in my backyard for my parents when they visit.  The feel is mid-century cabin in the woods (er, California desert).  The interior is predominantly wood, and we strived to find the perfect grain as well as the perfect stain to achieve that look.  I remember searching the MLS for inspiration.  This stunning example of late Mid-Century architecture gives you the feel for what I am hoping to accomplish.  I loved this house not only for the use of wood inside and out, but for the stunning views and the indoor/outdoor flow...the house is designed in a U-shape around a courtyard.  It just sold this month...congrats to those lucky Buyers!
