GO NORTH, MY FRIENDS

GO NORTH, MY FRIENDS

This past spring break, my family and I bravely headed out on a road trip north. Way north. I'm talking Oregon border north. Humboldt County to the Lost Coast into the National Redwood Forest. The redwoods are a national treasure and awesome to behold. Being amidst their singular beauty awes and inspires young and old. As our climate changes and natural space becomes more scarce, I encourage all those who can to take advantage of these gorgeous creatures. Become a tree hugger, get some oysters in Eureka and some bagels at Los Bagels in Arcata.

TRIPLE BEAM PIZZA

Of course Nancy Silverton would open her new Roman Style Pizzeria in Highland Park.  Everyone is opening an offshoot restaurant in Highland Park these days.  Randy Clement of Silverlake Wine joins in with his offerings of wine by the glass to accompany your slice. You determine how big of a slice you'd like from the long rectangular pizzas. Price is determined by weight, and pizza is served room temperature like they do in Roma. This makes for pizza that travels well too.  The husband and kids brought home a couple squares for me in a paper bag one Sunday, and it was deelish!

COMMUNITY SEDER AT SIJCC

If you are a Jew without a temple or a friend of a Jew or just want to experience a Passover Seder, you are welcome at the Community Seder at the Silver Lake Independent Jewish Community Center. This is an organization that is near and dear to me, as my children attended pre-school here, continue their Jewish education here and Hebrew School. It is open to interfaith families and a huge part of my community. Holidays are unique and often irreverent experiences while being loads of fun. All are welcome.

MOCA MEDITATION

Quiet Mornings - Art x Mindfulness at MOCA. My friend Amber and I ventured out to the Geffen Contemporary in Downtown LA last month not really knowing what to expect.  What we got was an early morning entree to the current exhibition, a full house group meditation led and bookended by an incredibly moving and inspiring talk by Father G of Homeboy Industries, and juice and avocado toast al fresco in the courtyard.  Ah, Saturday morning in Los Angeles, right?  Next Quiet Morning is March 10th...hope to see you there.

STANDING EGG

Yes, another coffee shop in the hood.  It does seem like every block has cafe, juice bar, yoga...repeat.  However, I'm giving a shout out to the relatively new Standing Egg because (1) the coffee is really good and (2) the owner is so earnest and sweet.  I want them to succeed.  If you are a dog owner and find yourselves at the Village Vet or Catts and Doggs, stop by Standing Egg for a a cuppa.  It's right in between.  The owner asked me if I thought little dog hooks under the counter to leash the pooch while you order your latte would be a good idea.  So sweet.  If your kids are dragging you to Pinkberry again, skip the ice cream and pop in to Standing Egg for an adult dessert...a proper cappuccino, of course or an ube scone! https://www.yelp.com/biz/standing-egg-coffee-los-angeles
