Built in 1922, the Schindler House, also known as the Schindler Chase House or the Kings Road House in considered the first house ever built in the Modern style. Rudolph Schindler emigrated to the US from Vienna and helped create the Modernist movement, along with Neutra and Lautner, which so defines much of Los Angeles' landscape. Tucked away behind stunning architectural gardens and dominated by contemporary condominium units on either side, entering the ethereal Schindler house is like stepping back into time. "The Schindler House has the inevitability of a masterpiece. Incorporating both architectural and social theory, it unfolds formally, spatially and intellectually with a coherence unparalleled in early modern architecture." Along with lunch at Angelini Alimentari, this outing provided a pleasant post Thanksgiving activity for the family.
